Depth of Field

This week our assignment was to take pictures using different settings to create different depths of field.

This picture is an example of narrow depth of field. Only about an inch is in focus. I like this picture because all the spirals around the cord look neat. I converted it to black and white to make the background less distracting.

Shutter: 1/60
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 4.3mm
ISO Speed:100

This photo is an example of medium depth of field. Only a foot or two is in focus. I like how the snow kind of makes a neat pattern in the snow.

Shutter: 1/320
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 4.3mm
ISO Speed: 80

This picture is an example of wide depth of field. All of the trees in the background are pretty sharp. I don't really like this picture but I think it is the best example I had of wide depth of field. I converted it to black and white because the color was not helping it much.

Different Lighting

Over the weekend, our assignment was to shoot a subject at three different times of the day. I decided to do this tree because I thought it might cast some cool shadows. The first picture i took around 8AM. The second picture i took around 2PM. And the last picture I took around 5:30PM. I like how the snow is melted a little more in each picture. I think the second picture is my favorite because it is brighter and more vivid than the rest. I also like how there are shadows in the second picture. I also kind of like the last picture because everything looks dull and dreary. It adds a different effect.

Free Post!

I took this picture looking up through the ladder on our silo. I like the repetition. The subject is the repetition of the bars. This picture might look good in black and white, but I like the bright blue sky and the specks of yellowish brown on the silo.

Aperture:f/2.8

I took this picture of some weird spiky plant in my backyard. I really like the colors on the inside of the plant. I also think the spiraling vines are neat.

I took this picture through a window screen. I think it is pretty interesting because you normally don't see pictures like this. I like how in focus the screen is.

Composition

Curved Lines
This picture is an example of curved lines. I took this picture of a fan in my room. I like how the curved lines really stand out. The subject is the curved lines. The secondary subject would be the fan blade.
Shutter: 1/120
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 4.3 mm
ISO Speed: 640

Diagonal Lines
This picture is an example of diagonal lines. You can see the diagonal lines from the shadow of the tree. I like how you can see the sun poking through in the top left corner. The main subject would be the shadow. The secondary subject would be the tree.

Shutter: 1/1250
Aperture: f/4.0
Focal Length: 4.3 mm
ISO Speed: 80

Leading Lines

I took this picture of the silo in my backyard. This picture is an example of leading lines. The lines of the silo draw your eyes to the top of the silo. I like how blue the sky is. I also like the square windows of the silo. The main subject is the silo.

Shutter:1/1250
Aperture: f/3.2
Focal Length: 4.3 mm
ISO Speed: 80

Horizontal Lines
I took this picture of a decoration we have on the side of our chicken coop. This picture has many horizontal lines. I like how the paint is chipped on the siding, it makes the pictue more interesting. The main subject is the horizontal lines in the siding. The secondary subject is the metal decoration.

Shutter: 1/500
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 4.3 mm
ISO Speed: 80

Rule of Thirds
I took this picture of some burs in my backyard. It is an example of rule of thirds. The bur is in the top left third of the photo. I like how small the area of focus is and how sharp and clear the bur is. I also like how the bur on the bottom almost looks as if it is a reflection of the bur on the top. The main subject is the bur that is in focus. The secondary subject is the bur that is out of focus.

Winter Nature

Frosty Tree

I saw this tree when I was driving down the road. I thought it looked very interesting. I like all the lines. I like how blue the sky is. This picture would probably be better if the closer branches were more in focus.

Shutter Speed:1/320
Aperture: f/3.5
ISO Speed: 80
Focal Length: 6.65mm
Snowy Weeds
I took this picture in a field by my house. I like the way the weeds contrast with the white snow. I think this picture might look neat in black and white.

Shutter Speed: 1/250
Aperture: f/3.5
ISO Speed: 80
Focal Length: 6.65mm

This is a little frost covered plant that was poking through the snow. I think it looks really neat with the sun shining behind it. I thought it was interesting how the frost is spiking out to make the plant look like a cactus.

Shutter Speed: 1/250
Aperture: f/2.8
ISO Speed: 80
Focal Length: 4.3mm

I took by the woods in my yard. I really like how the big orange sun is casting light on the frost. I think it would be better if I would've gotten more of the branches in focus.

Ramsey!

I took this picture of my dog Ramsey. I like how he is looking away from the camera. However, this picture was originally really dark. So I had to go in and adjust the lighting. The primary subject is Ramsey. The secondary subject  is the line of grass in the background.

Open Theme 1

I took this picture of one of our many chickens. I thought it was neat how it like posed for me with one leg up. The primary subject is the chicken and the secondary subject could be all the stuff in the snow. I like how the chicken really stands out in the white snow. I think it would have been cool if I would have tried this picture from different angles.

This is an old rusty grass cutter that we have in our yard. I like how only a little bit of it is in focus. The color and texture of it make this picture very interesting. The primary subject of this photo is the rusty. The secondary subject is the grass cutter itself.
